2024 Ford Bronco Sport Review | Free Wheeling and Black Packages Add Factory Customization
The 2024 Ford Bronco Sport presents its classic style wrapped in two very different new packages. It continues to be affordable, a significant fact given its extensive off-roading capability.
In this Bronco Sport review, we’ll take a look at the new Free Wheeling special edition, the black appearance package and other changes for the 2024 model year. Is this ride a good fit for your lifestyle? Here’s a chance to learn more.
1970s Inspiration for 2024 Model Year
The 2024 Ford Bronco Sport both looks like and is a serious adventurer. Therefore, it’s no wonder that designers would want to lean into its fun side.
Taking a cue from the 1970s, designers looked at the Free Wheeling packages found on the most popular Fords of that day. In particular, the Ford F-150 and Bronco once offered this sort of exciting colorful style.
In stripes of reflective color, red orange and yellow graphics form a rainbow down the sides of the Bronco Sport Free Wheeling Special Edition. There’s more color on the hood and liftgate, bringing the look together.
Touches of silver enhance the graphics. Plus, a silver-painted grille sets the special edition apart from the rest of the lineup. A Shadow Black Roof caps off the exterior color choice. High-gloss black wheels with red accents complete the transformation.
Free Wheeling Special Edition
Free Wheeling interiors dress up in black onyx and dark space gray. Upholstery is dressed up with sunset-colored inserts, bringing the orange yellow and silver inside the cabin.
Ombre stitching adds more detailing to the seats and doors. Even more fun, a Race Red C Channel accent spices up the door trim. Ready for messes, both the upholstery and floor are easy to keep clean. MOLLE straps can hold your gear while you hit the trail.
Outfitted like the Big Bend models, Free Wheeling Special Editions have a well-equipped cockpit. This includes a large touchscreen and automatic temperature controls.
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Sirius XM are among the multi-media standards. Favorite driver tools include keyless start, a rearview camera with a washer, and heated side mirrors. If you are interested in the most updated Bronco Sport pricing, we can help you out with a quick quote for the Free Wheeling or any other trim level.
Black Appearance Package
Like the Free Wheeling trim level, the Black Appearance Package builds on the Big Bend. It takes the athletic Bronco Sport into a completely different direction.
Wearing two-tone Bronco lettering, the Carbon Black grille is the first hint at the many changes. This gives the front end a somewhat menacing look with its eyelike running lamps, horizontal black air intake, and black bumper.
Matte Black hood graphics help to raise the sporting profile of this makeover. This is matched with 17-inch Matte Black wheels. Shoppers enjoy their choice of exterior color and a Shadow Black painted roof.
Inside there are Sport Contour seats to hug you on curves and keep you cushioned over bumps. A black bucking Bronco badge dresses up the modified air bag cover. When the gauge cluster comes to life, the graphics reveal the Milky Way on the start-up screen.
Big Bend Performance and Off Roading
Every member of the Bronco Sport lineup is tough enough for the trail. For the Badlands trim, Ford utilizes a high-performance off-road stability suspension (HOSS). However, the regular suspension is enough to ensure that this compact crossover can handle trail challenges.
The body is built to rise above trouble. Overhangs are kept short to improve approach and departure angles.
Four-wheel drive has five standard modes, called GOAT for its ability to go over any type of terrain. The most advanced modes on the Big Bend are slippery and sand modes. For Phoenix AZ adventure seekers, that sand mode can come in really handy.
A turbo three Ecoboost engine generates a serious level of horsepower and torque. The 2024 Bronco Sport crossover can be competitive in highway traffic and harness slow-speed torque for the trail. You can value your trade with this easy Kelley Blue Book tool.
Badlands Off-roading and Performance
With the Badlands trim, the engine is upgraded to a four-cylinder turbo Ecoboost. This unit generates 250 horsepower and 227 lb-ft of torque. The four-wheel drive system is upgraded to include a Mud-Ruts mode and a rock crawl mode. It has a locking differential as well.
Badlands exterior standards include a complete array of bash plates. These four metal shields help protect the engine and other vital parts. To help watch for trouble, there’s a front-view camera. Ground clearance rises to 8.8 inches.
If you want to roll through a stream, the Badlands allows for up to 23.6 inches of water. This is accomplished with waterproofing as well as its tall stance and tight overhangs. Rock crawl mode adjusts the power steering to help the driver handle rocky travel with precision.
Trail Control, another Badlands standard, is essentially slow-speed cruise control. Under 20 mph, the driver can rely on trail control to handle throttle and braking. In fact, at speeds under 6 mph, the system can do the same thing while in reverse. That’s great help on the trail.
Bronco Sport Upper Trim Levels
Heritage models build on the Big Bend features and equipment. They add sleek interior styling and a distinctive exterior with a contrast roof. A convenience package includes a wireless charger, heated front seats, parking sensors, and a power-adjustable driver’s chair.
Outer Banks models are one of the best dressed. There’s leather upholstery and ambient lighting. A heated steering wheel is matched to the power-adjustable driver’s seat. The passenger seat gains six-way power adjustments. Both seats are power-heated.
Behind the steering wheel, there is a 6.5-inch digital instrument display. Drivers appreciate more tools such as rain-sensing wipers, a remote starter, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. A Tech package adds a 10-speaker Bang and Olufsen sound system.
More focused on its role as the number one off-roader, the Badlands model doesn't automatically come with leather upholstery. All of the niceties are offered in a Premium package. Offering a unique style plus the whole Bronco Sport menu of amenities, the Heritage Limited is at the top of the ladder.
Cargo Capacity and Utility
Cargo capacity is one of the best in this off-road crossover category. It can handle 32.7 cubic feet of material in its cargo hold. This can almost double with the second row down. Plus there is a dual-level floor for versatility.
It’s easy to get gear out with the wide rear gate and low load floor. Plus you’ve go a flip-up window as an extra way to reach your stash. A 5-way cargo management system is available with a handy fold-out table. In addition, you can light up 129 square feet behind the Bronco Sport with the available LED flood lamps.
The large cargo hold can actually handle two bikes upright. Plus the Outer Banks trim level has roof rails for additional utility.
Safety Standards
With a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2023 Bronco Sport has proven its worth. However, Ford goes well beyond the ability to withstand a crash. It wants the vehicle to work with the driver to prevent collisions.
With Ford CoPilot360 to provide driver assistance, a Bronco Sport driver has tools to avoid the worst situations. The system watches the sides with a blind spot monitor and a lane departure assist. It watches ahead, providing forward collision warnings, pedestrian detection and related autobraking.
Other standards include a rear cross-traffic alert and automatic high beams. A package can add adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist. Lane centering and speed sign assist add more protections.
Now that you know more, check out our inventory. You can pre-order the Bronco Sport Free Wheeling Special Edition. Schedule a test drive of your favorite member of the lineup.
