2022 Ford Transit Review | E-Transit | Transit Connect
The 2022 Ford Transit van is an excellent commercial series with more choices than ever. As a leading commercial manufacturer, the Ford brand already revolutionized hauling by creating true choices in size and capability.
Fans of the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach E are sure to like the new electric cargo van. Phoenix AZ businesses will find the 2022 Ford Transit cargo van saves on fuel costs yet it moves loads like a champ.
Small and smartly designed, the 2022 Ford Transit Connect takes the smaller loads on the more crowded roads. When it comes to helping your business move a load, there’s nothing like the Transit series.
Sizes and Styles
The E-Transit and gas-powered work vans come in multiple sizes. This includes the cargo van, chassis cab model, and cutaway. Shoppers choose from a low roof, medium roof or high roof. They also have a choice of regular, long and extra long lengths.
By the way, the E-Transit cargo dimensions are not compromised by the addition of electric batteries. Just like the regular van, this electric vehicle is ready for upfitters and modifiers, offering up the same standard mounting points.
The gas-powered van also comes as a 5-passenger crew van. The passenger van comes in 12 passenger and 15 passenger varieties.
Transit Connect vs Transit
Transit Connect Ford body sizes are smaller. There are short and long wheelbase cargo van styles as well as a long wheelbase wagon. These are sized at eight 174 or 190 inches.
By comparison, the E-Transit and Transit may be 219, 237, or even 263 inches long. These vans need more horsepower and torque than the Transit Connect, and they definitely get it.
XL or XLT trim levels are offered for the Transit and Transit Connect. However, there is a Titanium edition of the Ford Transit wagon style. The Ford E Transit AWD arrives with a fancier set of standards.
Transit and E-Transit Performance
The gas-powered cargo, crew or passenger van has Ford’s smart 10-speed automatic transmission. This SelectShift system is aided by a standard auxiliary transmission oil cooler. The Ford Transit for sale has a standard V6 with 275 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. When equipped with the Ecoboost V6, the van generates 310 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.
The 2022 Ford E-Transit 350 Cargo Van is propelled by 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. In the conventional van size, it can go up to 126 miles on a single charge. Larger vans can go up to 108 miles. When you consider that the daily commercial range is 74 miles, you can see these E Transit Ford vans can easily handle their schedule.
When at 10 percent, the battery can return to a 80 percent charge with a fast charger in about 34 minutes. That’s enough time for the driver to grab a sandwich. The Ford connected charge station only needs 8 hours (overnight) to bring the van to a full charge. An app lets you check on the state of charge from your phone.
Front wheel drive and all wheel drive are available. The E-Transit utilizes an electric motor to drive the rear wheels.
Transit and E Transit Capability
Extra-long, high roof models have up to 487.3 cubic feet of cargo space. Smaller vans offer 158, 204, 220, 263 or 300 cubic feet of space, depending on their size, roof heights, and seating capacity. The front seat can be removed to add more space for cargo.
If you are wondering if the E-Transit matches the Transit, you should know that the electric vans were designed to optimize its cargo hold. Engineers used a heavy duty semi trailing arm suspension for confident handling and good traction. There’s no size difference as a result.
Maximum payload for the E-Transit cargo vans is a whopping 3,880 pounds. The maximum for regular Transit 350 vans is as much as 4,550 pounds with a double wheelbase. The Transit 350 is capable of towing as much as 6,200 pounds with a Ecoboost V6 crew van.
Transit Connect Performance and Capability
The Ford Transit Connect for sale is offered with a naturally aspirated inline-four engine. This 2.0-liter GDI system produces 162 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed SelectShift automatic transmission controls the power to the front wheels.
An automatic stop-start reduces fuel use at redlights. It can use E85 as well as regular unleaded fuel. Fleet customers will be interested in a new idle shutdown system that turns the engine off automatically if the driver leaves it idling for longer than a set period of time.
The second engine choice is a 2.5-liter iVCT inline-4. With regular unleaded, output is 169 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.
Transit Connect cargo volume is 104.8 or 127 cubic feet. The front seat can fold to expand this. Maximum payload weight is 1,510 pounds. Towing is limited to 2,000 pounds or less.
XL Trim Level
XL drivers will appreciate a 6-way adjustable seat, a 4-way adjustable steering column, and a 4.2-inch LCD multi-function display. Other conveniences include cupholders, power windows, Bluetooth, a USB port, a 12V powerpoint, and a large overhead shelf. Vinyl covers the seats.
The cargo floor is a thick vinyl. There are dedicated area lights and tie-down hooks. Power locks can be controlled with the key fob. Numerous driver assistance systems are standard.
FordPass Connect is available to provide a Wi-Fi hotspot. This system includes a remote starter with the ability to remotely start the van. Fleet managers may want to test drive the van to try out the amenities, dash tech, and driver assist features.
XLT Trim Level
Wearing a 6.5-inch screen on the dash, the XLT has Sync3, AppLink, additional charging points, a wireless charging pad, and SiriusXM connectivity. It has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Colors include ebony and dark palazzo gray.
Cloth seats, carpeted floors, and satin chrome style points elevate the interior style.
Drivers will appreciate MyKey functions and standard cruise control. Additional safety features are added as well.
The Transit Connect Platinum has power-heated front seats with a power-adjustable chair for the driver. It also has fold-flat second and third row seats. It offers a panoramic fixed-glass roof, leather seats, and cornering fog lamps. Push button start is standard.
E-Transit Special Features
As a new model, Ford has packed on some exciting features. The E-Transit has a large 12-inch touch screen with Sync4 capability. It also has more front row space due to the use of an electronic parking brake and a rotary shifter.
Sync4 and E-transit software can be updated via the cloud. Likewise the navigation system is enhanced by cloud connectivity.
Ford Pro E-Telematics is complimentary for the first three years of ownership. This represents a new chapter in remote services.
While the vehicle is still plugged in, the owner can pre-condition the vehicle. This optimizes battery efficiency and doesn’t waste energy like the remote starter on a gas vehicle. The other upside is that it preserves the battery charge for active travel.
With E-Telematics, fleet managers can utilize charging reports to reimburse drivers who recharge their vans at home. The system can even be used to pay for public charging. Also available, the Pro Power Onboard system can be used for power tools on a remote work site. You can get a demonstration of these systems at your Earnhardt Ford Transit dealer.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Every type of Transit van comes with a pre collision assist with automatic emergency braking as a backup to the audible and visual driver alerts. These work vans also have the Ford lane keeping system, including the alert and assist. Some Transits also have standard rain-sensing wipers and auto high beam headlamps.
You can also get adaptive cruise control. This system utilizes the standard forward collision system with autobrake and the standard lane keeping assist. This allows Ford vehicles to slow and go with traffic.
The blind spot system, standard on the XLT models, includes a cross-traffic alert. Forward and reverse sensing systems are available. You can step up to the Enhanced Active Park Assist. The Transit rearview camera includes a trailer hitch assist.
The E-Transit offers Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with speed sign recognition. A speed limit system is available to reduce the chances of speeding.
