2024 Ford Mustang Review
As the first of the seventh generation, the 2024 Mustang is more aerodynamic, more athletic, and better equipped. From its jet-inspired cockpit to the Dark Horse rear wing, this car exudes style.
The Mustang Dark Horse is the car’s newest trim. There’s something sly and mysterious about its styling. Although it shares the Mustang GT V8, it can produce more power.
In this new Mustang review, we’ll look at the different aspects important to sports car buying. Is this new pony car right for you? Find out here.
Exterior Colors and Styling
To create the new look, engineers wanted to make the vehicle more aerodynamic. Designers wanted to retain the classic shape and sleek lines. Although the look is quite cohesive, there are 1965 Mustang styling cues and new engineering ideas practically side by side.
Mustang GT models are especially athletic. Aggressive grille openings and new hood vents aren’t just for looks. The front splitter has been redesigned for greater effectiveness.
The Dark House grille has extra-large openings for additional cooling. A fixed rear wing and a big diffuser suggest its aerodynamic capability. Aggressive features range from its distinctive graphics to its quad-tipped tailpipes. Other exclusive Dark Horse options include special Pirelli tires and carbon-fiber wheels.
Any model can be dressed up with stripes or graphics that have been updated for the new generation. Dark Horse graphics are offered in a trim-specific variety of designs and colors. There are many special elements that make this year more fun than ever.
Shoppers still have their choice of dynamic exterior colors. The newest are Vapor Blue and Yellow Splash. The Dark Horse exclusive paint color is called Blue Ember. It changes color as it catches the light. An amber tone may turn this pony brown if the light hits it just right.
Brake calipers are offered in Grabber Blue, red or black. The new Mustang Design Series offers an exciting Appearance package with Bronze exterior highlights. Why not check with our financing department to identify which 2024 trim levels will fit your budget?
Mustang Performance by Trim Level
New engines guarantee more fun behind the wheel, and that’s saying a lot for a car with this kind of history. The Mustang Ecoboost Fastback and convertible are equipped with an updated 4-cylinder 2.3-liter turbo. This unit is more powerful than the 2023 engine. Yet it will do just as good a job of watching fuel usage.
Good fuel economy is easier with the 10-speed automatic transmission. For manual fun, you can be in charge of the shifting by using the steering wheel paddles.
For a racier engine, there’s an all new Coyote V8. This 5.0-liter engine is a new design that seeks to prevent induction loss. Engineers achieved this with a dual-throttle body design aided by a dual air-intake box.
Another trick for the naturally aspirated V8 is its use of port fuel injection and direct fuel injection. Switching seamlessly, this targets the best injection system for speed and conditions.
With special equipment on the Mustang Dark Horse, the Coyote V8 creates a projected 500 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque. For those who keep track, that output is greater than any other non-Shelby Mustang in the car’s history.
GT drivers can command this V8 with a Getrag MT-82 manual transmission. Dark Horse drivers have the even more refined Tremec TR-3160 6 speed manual transmission. Motor Trend reported that the Dark House makes the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.8 seconds.
For those who haven’t tried it, Rev Match makes driving a manual much more fun. When you touch the clutch to shift gears, Rev Match holds the engine RPM. You don’t lose speed or momentum as a result.
Racing and Drifting Capability
The 2024 Ford Mustang has power and capabilities that may be illegal on regular roads. That’s because every Ford has a track and drag strip mode. This adjusts steering, gear shifting parameters, engine systems, and traction controls.
If your 2024 pony car has active exhaust. You can change the setting to track and enjoy even more noise than the sport mode. Launch Control is available to help the Mustang hold power until it takes off on the track.
The biggest item on the whole menu is the drift brake. Called the Performance Electronic Parking Brake, this feature is standard with the Performance Pack, even on the affordable Mustang Ecoboost Fastback.
When you grab the lever, it acts as a hydraulic rear-wheel brake by utilizing technology borrowed from traction controls. This is a neat trick of engineering, and it is extremely fun to achieve a perfect drift on the track or drag strip of your choice.
You’ll feel like a Formula One Drift champion. That’s only right since Vaughn Gittin Jr helped engineers design this feature.
A real racecar utilizes a mechanical lever, but this feature uses sensors. Without cables and other parts, it adds no weight to the sports car. That’s a win-win.
Performance and Handling Packages
The Performance pack really brings out the best in these sports cars. It has wider rear wheels and wider rear tires, helping it take full advantage of the new drift brake. For strength, it has a front Tower Brace.
The standard Limited Slip Differential is upgraded to an even tougher Torsen LSD. This package sharpens steering ratios to improve cornering and straight-line capability.
The Brembo brakes are bigger, too. GT Performance models get air ducts for brake cooling and an auxiliary engine cooler. Dark Horse models have these features as well as a rear axle cooler, a lighter-weight radiator, and more powerful fans.
Exclusive for the Dark Horse trim level, the handling package adds an integrated Gurney Flap to the rear wing. This creates appropriate downforce and improves aerodynamics. There are bigger sway bars and stiffer springs. Wider Pirelli Trofeo tires are available with lightweight carbon fiber wheels.
Interior by Trim Level
The Mustang continues its tradition of offering the Fastback and convertible styles in both the Ecoboost and GT line ups. Convertibles have one-touch activation for their insulated, compact roof.
Standard cabins have the most driver-centric screens ever found in a Mustang. Stretching for 26 inches, a single piece of glass curves behind the steering wheel over to the traditional place for the touchscreen.
The touchscreen is angled toward the driver for easy reach. Many functions have been combined into its menus, but there’s not a learning curve. The screen uses a graphic-style menu where you just tap the function you want.
If you want something fun, seats can be upgraded with Micro Suede inserts. Ecoboost Premium models wear ActiveX in a variety of fun color schemes. For leather seat inserts, you can step up to the GT Premium. With the stitched dash and door panels, style and softness surrounds the driver and front seat passenger.
Stepping up to the Dark Horse, a dark metallic gloss replaces the bright silver vents. This Black Alley color shows up in other elements such as the dash bezels. A special process has been applied to provide a luxury grain texture to soft surfaces. Materials include ActiveX, real leather, suede, and carbon fiber.
Indigo Blue stitching decorates the doors, center console, and steering wheel. An appearance package adds Deep Indigo Blue to the seats and more blue accents to the bolsters. Even the seat perforations reveal a bright blue accent.
If you choose RECARO chairs, a black suede insert does three things at once. It looks good, feels soft, and provides extra grip during cornering.
Driver’s Cockpit
Ford brings the future to the Mustang dash with its 12.4-inch digital instrumentation screen and its 13.2-inch touchscreen. Although behind a single curved pane of glass, these are separate screens that can be essentially joined together by a driver using the customization features.
The Sync4 touchscreen is augmented by Bluetooth voice controls and duplicate controls on the steering wheel. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay provide an interface to allow smartphone users to send their favorite apps to the screen.
The screens can be customized so you see what is most important to you. You can program the system to change with the drive modes. You can choose the calm screen when you need fewer distractions.
If you love to customize how you drive, you can use the customizable drive mode and save up to six different profiles. Electric power assisted steering has three selectable-effort modes.
Drivers can turn the car to quiet mode when arriving home late at night or change it to sport to enjoy the racing of the engine as they take highway curves. For 2024, there’s even a Remote Rev. This lets you use your keyfob to rev the engine.
Cutting-Edge Ride Quality and Driver Assistance
Speedy cars need Ford’s Magneride suspension. It reacts in real time to changes in the road’s surface. This Performance package feature is standard on the Dark Horse. It guarantees a better ride quality for passengers and improves handling for the driver.
Active pothole mitigation is a new feature with the Performance Package. Building on Magneride, it recognizes a big pothole and acts to counter the effects of hitting the uneven surface.
2024 Mustangs are equipped with more safety features than ever before. Ford CoPilot 360 includes forward collision avoidance, pedestrian watch, speed sign recognition, and other systems designed to reduce dangers ahead of the vehicle.
Reducing the chances of a collision alongside the Mustang, there’s lane centering assist, blind spot monitoring, and evasive steer assist. In addition to a rearview camera, reverse brake assist tries to stop a fender bender before it happens. A new Ford exit warning helps the driver avoid hitting a pedestrian or cyclist when departing the vehicle.
The 2024 Ford Mustang is sure to add fun to your lifestyle. Schedule a test drive at your Rodeo Ford dealership.
