2024 Ford Maverick Review
In many ways, the 2024 Ford Maverick is a logical follow-up to the successful 2022 and 2023 model years. It has proven itself, and now it can offer more ways to personalize the ride.
For this new Maverick review, we will help you compare the powertrains, trim levels, off-roading packages and more. Keep scrolling for all the stats, specs and style.
What’s New for 2024?
In 2022, the Maverick was introduced with one hybrid edition and three Ecoboost editions. In 2023, the excitement level went way up with the introduction of the Tremor package on the Ecoboost model.
This year there’s even more excitement as both the FX4 and Tremor packages are available for the XLT and Lariat trims. That’s four packages at four price points for those who really want to go off-road.
Despite the inexpensive pricing, Mavericks offers dressy truck upholstery from the XL up. The seats wear a two-tone look. A dark slate provides the perfect accent to either Black Onyx or Navy Pier.
Trucks can go mysterious with the Black Package’s black-on-black interior or go sporty with orange accents in the Tremor. The elegant Lariat offers Desert Brown or Black Onyx color schemes. This long-lasting, breathable ActiveX looks and feels like real leather.
Should You Choose the Maverick Hybrid Powertrain?
The Hybrid powertrain offers the convenience of front-wheel drive. For Phoenix AZ area drivers, this tends to be fine. Our weather doesn’t really demand that we get all-wheel drive. Output is 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque.
Daily commuters will love this hybrid for its money-saving fuel economy. In busy city driving, it earns 42 miles per gallon. On the highway, it earns 33 mpg. That’s a combined rate of 37 mpg, and you’d be hard pressed to find any truck with better fuel economy, unless it’s the Ford F-150 Lightning.
The top tow rating for Maverick Hybrids is 2,000 pounds. They can haul up to 1,500 pounds in the cargo bed. Ground clearance is an ample 8.3 inches for all front-wheel drive Mavericks..
In the past, your trim levels were limited to the XL. This year the 2024 Hybrid powertrain is offered on the XL, XLT and Lariat trim levels. This means you can enjoy the many different interior color schemes as well as the top amenities, if you want them.
Hybrid powertrains have regenerative braking, which helps restore power to the hybrid battery. Like Ecoboost models, they have electric power assisted steering. This Ford exclusive helps the Maverick driver avoid understeer and oversteer.
Should You Choose the Maverick Ecoboost?
The Maverick Ecoboost engine is standard on the XL, XLT and Lariat lineup. For 2024, that also means an upgrade to all-wheel drive.
Driving enthusiasts may prefer this faster truck with its 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Ecoboost payload ratings are still 1,500 pounds, like the hybrid. However, the Maverick Tremor has a payload rating of 1,200 pounds.
Adventure lovers may want the FX4 or Tremor package, only available with the Maverick XLT or Lariat Ecoboost models. This boosts ground clearance from 8.3 inches (FWD) to 8.6 (AWD) or 9.4 inches (Tremor).
Ecoboost AWD models have a maximum tow ratings of 4,000 pounds. You’ll want to include the 4K Tow Package to ensure it is fully equipped for trailering.
Of course, the fuel economy isn’t as outstanding as the hybrid, but it is still good. It is rated at 26 mpg city and 30 mpg highway for the FWD models .The Ecoboost AWD Mavericks don’t lose much ground. They earn 25/29 mpg in city/highway driving.
What Off Roading Equipment is Available?
Like any good Ford truck, even the front-wheel drive models can take on a dirt road. For a bigger adventure, shoppers need to look at the FX4 or Tremor packages. These are both offered on the Ecoboost XLT and Ecoboost Lariat trims.
The FX4 has a special rear suspension with advantages like mono-tube hydraulic gas-pressurized dampers. It wears special shields to protect its vulnerable underbody. All-terrain tires and hill descent control help drivers tackle the trail.
Special driving modes, such as mud and ruts, help the Maverick FX4 or Maverick Tremor to handle challenges. The Sand driving mode is especially useful to Phoenix AZ drivers, since we are surrounded by desert off-roading opportunities.
FX4 ground clearance is 8.6 inches while a lift allows the Tremor to claim 9.4 inches. In addition to being taller, Maverick Tremors have a more advanced off-road build, including a specialized suspension, springs, and shocks. Other changes include an additional front skid plate and the raised front bumper.
Trail Control acts like slow-speed cruise control when you take to the trail. The regular all-wheel drive is upgraded to a more advanced 4WD set-up. Drivers can utilize both a 4WD lock and a special lock for the dual clutch rear drive unit. Thanks to this system, Tremors can direct power to one wheel if it will help get the vehicle moving.
Are the Hybrid and Ecoboost Cabins the Same Size?
In style and features, the Hybrid and Ecoboost cabins are the same. However, the Hybrid battery pack shaves a tiny bit of interior space off. This means the Maverick Ecoboost can claim 101.5 cubic feet while the Hybrid is slightly smaller at 100.3 cubic feet.
The front seat is unaffected by this change. In fact, all Maverick cabins are ready for an NBA player to drive. The front legroom is 42.8 inches.
This Supercrew cabin has 35.9 inches of second-row legroom in the hybrid. Ecoboost models claim 36.9 inches for backseat legroom.
Both models offer true second-row versatility. You can fold the backseat seat and claim a sizable cargo area. Rear seats hide a dual storage bin where you can safely stow your valuables. Many of the Maverick’s rivals cannot claim either of these helpful features.

How do XL, XLT and Lariat Cabins Compare?
The XL cabin wears a cool combination of dark slate and black onyx upholstery. XLT models exchange the black for a unique blue, known as Navy Pier. Lariat models upgrade to ActiveX upholstery and change the color to Desert Brown.
An all-black interior is available with the Lariat and standard with the Black Package. With Lariats, the upholstery is Active X while all-black XLT models still have cloth upholstery. Maverick Tremors have orange accents on either XLT black cloth or Lariat black Active X seats.
An 8-inch touchscreen sits in the center stack. XL models have Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. The 4.2-inch driver’s screen is standard on both XL and XLT models, but the higher trim can choose to upgrade to a 6.5-inch screen. All models offer FordPass Connect. This system allows you to use an app for remote starts.
Lariat models add Sync 3 capability and navigation to the touchscreen. It has the 6.5-inch instrument cluster screen and an 8-speaker Bang and Olufsen (B&O) premium audio system. Push button start, a rotary gear shift dial, and an electric parking brake make the cockpit more spacious as well as more high tech.
The Lariat and the XL Luxury Package add a power-adjustable driver’s seat and heated front seats. The regular HVAC system is upgraded to a dual-zone automatic system in the Lariat. This top trim also has a power-open rear window.
What is the Ford Maverick Flexbed?
All Ford Mavericks have a Flexbed to make the cargo area more useful. When fully equipped, there are cargo rails, D-rings, and tie down points to help you secure the load. Some models have storage bins.
The cargo tonneau cover is offered in two hardtop and one soft top variety. Ford provides slots and other elements that allow you to design your own cargo dividers. If the tailgate is folded flat, it allows you to haul items almost six feet long.
This 4.5-foot bed measures 54.4 inches long and 53.3 inches wide. The wheel housing cargo width is 42.6 inches. Cargo volume is 33.3 cubic feet with a tonneau cover in place. Lift-in height is 30.1 inches while the pickup body height is 20.3 inches.
Pre-wired 12-volt electrical leads are ready for owners who want to do their own truck upgrades. XLT and Lariat models increase the number of tie-downs from 6 to 10. They also have an in-bed storage bin.
What Driver Aids are Offered on the Maverick?
Every Maverick has a forward collision warning system with a pedestrian watch. This can trigger automatic braking if the system senses an impending collision. Other standards include a rearview camera, auto-on headlights, and automatic high beam assist.
Side-crash prevention is offered in the XL and XLT packages and is standard on the Lariat. This includes a lane departure warning, a lane-keeping aid, and a blind spot monitor. A rear cross traffic alert assists with safer parking maneuvers. Lane centering helps the driver stay safe within the marked lines.
Lariat models combine lane centering features with adaptive cruise control. This system can slow and go with the traffic patterns. Evasive steering is added to increase the ways the truck can help the driver. For parking, the Lariat has rear sensors to detect trouble. FX and Tremor models have hill descent control.
As for exterior safety equipment, all models have standard LED headlights and a center high-mounted stop lamp. The XLT and Lariat trim levels add power side mirrors with a spotter mirror for extra blind spot protection.
