2024 Ford F-150 Review New Model Year, New Truck
The 2024 Ford F-150 enters the marketplace as a popular model. It could easily rest on prior success. IIs the new model year an improvement?
Get straight answers in this Ford F-150 review. You’ll learn about the trim level changes, new driver assistance features, new entry level standards, and the new base engine.
What’s New for the 2024 F-150 Model Year?
With so many best-in-class numbers and exclusive features, the 2023 Ford F-150 really didn’t need any changes. Yet Ford set out to improve the 2024 F-150 in every area. That’s why you’ll find new standards, more power, and many other improvements throughout the lineup.
By doubling the availability of 2024 PowerBoost Hybrids, Ford makes this fuel-smart choice available to more pickup truck shoppers. This means more power and better fuel economy at lower price points.
The cockpit now has dual screens with more customization and its first head up display. Plus, it’s a cool look to have digital instrumentation in this truck. There are more CoPilot 360 driver aids, and Blue Cruise has been upgraded to do more and to be available to more owners
Stolen Vehicle Services works with the FordPass app to notify drivers about attempts to interfere with the truck. If needed, the owner can use the information to assist police with finding the vehicle.
Exterior Colors and Style Changes
There’s a new look with a coast-to-coast grill on the XL through Tremor trim levels. This style creates a wide rectangular look with the headlights inside. There’s a new design for the Blue Oval. Adding value across the lineup, the Class IV trailer hitch is a new exterior standard for 2024.
The higher trim levels have revised grille textures and finishes, but they continue to sport the unique C-clamp headlights. New running lights are combined with the grille for a more aggressive look.
A new three-piece modular bumper is standard on the F-150 Raptor and Tremor models. This feature allows for some interesting customization. Other changes include the new forged tow hooks on the Raptor R models.
There are at least 17 exterior colors, providing many ways to personalize this big truck. The newest color, available on the F-150 Raptor, is Shelter Green. King Ranch models offer the unique two-tone metal exterior elements. Tremor models have a front bumper that brings together Carbon Black and Tarnished Dark Anodized hues.
STX models are spiced up with Electric Lime accents. New Raptor graphics pair a blackout tape with Code Orange. Raptor R models have their own Code Orange and black graphics with the extra accent of Carbonized Gray.
Tailgate and Truck Bed
There are still three truck bed sizes. The 5.5-foot bed offers 52.8 cubic feet of contained space The 6.5-foot bed can claim 62.3 cubic feet while the 8-foot bed is rated at 77.4 cubic feet.
The classic tailgate offers a power-up, power-down feature that makes access so easy. Plus it can now be upgraded to a Pro Access Tailgate. This provides a wider step, increased bumper depth, and a new split tailgate function.
An available swing-out door segment makes it possible to open the tailgate when a fixed tongue jack is in place. This opens to 37 degrees unless there is no trailer. Then you can open it to 70- or 100-degree arcs for maximum access.
Leading other trucks, the 2024 F-150 can claim a best-in-class payload rating of 2,455 pounds. If you choose the Smart Hitch, you can also get Onboard Scales. This will estimate the payload weight and help ensure you don’t overload your F-150. While it shows the estimate on your touchscreen, it also utilizes rear LED lights to show the payload level.
Trailering Capability and Tow Ratings
The 2024 Ford F-150 pickup leads its class in trailering technology. Plus 2024 Ford F-150s offer the best-in-class maximum towing capability. At 13,500 pounds, this light duty truck is the biggest hauler in its segment.
Trailering can be frustrating and dangerous, but Ford tools seek to change that. 2024 standards include trailer sway control and a hitch. Pro Trailer Hitch Assist utilities cameras and radar to make coupling easier. It does the steering, acceleration, and braking for the driver.
A camera system and a special knob allow Pro Trailer Backup Assist to move the trailer while the steering wheel moves the vehicle. This can be invaluable when maneuvering your trailer.
In another Ford first, a Smart Hitch is available to help with measuring tongue weight. This helps ensure the safest hook ups. If you are interested in a new pickup truck, you can find out about 2024 Ford F150 prices with a quick quote.
Trim Levels and Dash Technology
At the top of the ladder, the Limited trim has been replaced by the Platinum Plus. Otherwise, the trim levels are the same. Shoppers will have so many off-road choices with the FX4 package and the Tremor, Raptor and Raptor R trim levels. These add beefy all terrain tires, skid plates, and off-road adventure tools.
With its 12.4 inch digital instrumentation, the Ford F-150 XL now has the sportiest cabin it has ever had. This is matched to a 12-inch touchscreen. The Sync4 system is enhanced by Android Auto and Apple CarPlay which adds your apps to the system screen.
The infotainment system can be enhanced with over-the-air software updates. In fact, Ford has made it possible for users to keep Ford informed about problems and suggestions for the system. This should lead to the most useful and effective software updates.
The WiFi hotspot is now available in 5G. Plus it can be utilized by as many as ten smart devices. Passengers can use it on the go. It is especially useful at worksites and campsites.
New Standard Engine
Ford is adding a lot of value to the entry level F-150 by replacing the 2023 V6 with a twin-turbo Ecoboost. This 2.7-liter powertrain cranks out 325 horsepower and 400 pound feet of torque. It’s definitely taking on the 300-horsepower Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the 280-horsepower Ram 1500.
When it comes to making good technology available to more people, the 2024 Ford F-150 is leading the way. The F-150 Hybrid powertrain on the XLT model will be offered at a lower price point. This gives more individuals and businesses a chance to get true hybrid capability on a full size pickup truck. If you compare it to the Toyota Tundra, you’ll find this is a much better deal.
Hybrid F-150s can produce 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque, utilizing its gas engine and electric motor. It is offered at about the same price as the 400-horsepower Ecoboost with 480 lb-ft of torque.
Pro Power Onboard
In another move to add value to the entry level F-150, Ford is making more Pro Power Onboard capability available across the lineup. 2024 gas-only models are offering a 2.0kW system while hybrid models have a standard 2.4kW system. This can be upgraded on hybrids to the full 7.2-kW capability.
With the gas tank full, the 2.0 kW inverter can power appliances such as a mini fridge, blender, and television. The 2.4 kW system lets you power even more appliances. During power outages, this may mean running extension cords to keep your freezer cold. If it’s hot, you’ll be able to run your fans. If it’s cold, you can hook your electric heaters.
The 7.2 kW system is capable of assisting work teams. It can take care of mobile shops, provide power for a construction framing crew, and more. You won’t find this capability on rivals like the GMC Sierra 1500.
Hands Free Blue Cruise
Ford has upgraded Blue Cruise for the 2024 model year. Now known as Blue Cruise 1.2, it has the ability to utilize in-lane repositioning to increase clearance when it detects semi-trucks in the neighboring lane.
Furthermore, Lane Change Assist can be activated if the driver utilizes a turn signal. This prompts Blue Cruise to perform a hands free lane change for the driver.
Available to more owners, the feature can be activated by the month as well as by the year. There is a 90-day complimentary trial on certain trims. Find out about financing with this easy pre approval form.
Improved Standard Driver Assistance
Another way Ford is adding value to the entry level F-150 is with more driver assistance. There are 10 standard aids, and there are upgrades to many for the 2024 model year.
The pre-collision assist can watch for stopping traffic, people on the road, and other dangers. Then it can trigger automatic emergency braking. The lane keeping system can watch the lines and help assist the F-150 driver with maintaining the safest path. A blind spot monitor helps ensure safer lane changes while a rear cross traffic alert is an excellent partner to the rearview camera.
New for 2024, the F-150 offers an exit warning. This safety feature attempts to prevent passengers from opening the door at the wrong time. It watches for cars, people, and cyclists and warns you if it isn’t safe to step out of the truck.
Whether you need a work truck, an adventure vehicle or a sporty ride, the Ford F-150 lineup has something for you. Check it out at your Phoenix Ford dealer. You are invited to schedule a test drive.
